Autographed Items to Benefit Clear Path

Buffalo Bills Head Football Coach Doug Marrone and long time supporter of Clear Path will be visiting June 22 from 10:00am-12:00pm to autograph personal items to benefit our programs. Cost will be $10 and 100% of all proceeds will go to support our local veterans. Visitors will also have an opportunity to meet Clear Path program veterans, other military guests and tour our beautiful facility. We want to thank SRC and the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and our other sponsors for their support of this event, the Red, White, and Blue BBQ and golf at The Ridge.

Pick Your Own Strawberries Field to Open June 13
Clear Path’s Pick-Your-Own strawberry field will tentatively open from June 13th through the end of the season, typically mid-July (call for availability).

Veterans and local farming volunteers planted over 19,000 strawberry plants on a two acre plot at Clear Path. In addition to veterans learning about planting and maintaining the field and agriculture, Clear Path now has a sustainable crop for fundraising. Our thanks to Jimmy Golub, from Our Farm (1590 Peth Road, Manlius) for donating his time and expertise to supervise volunteers and Burrell’s Naverino Orchard for donating equipment. Andrew Miller, Director of the culinary and agriculture programs at Clear Path, will be leading the Pick-Your-Own Strawberry project.

To all those who participated in Keller Williams Red Day, we at Clear Path for Veterans would like to thank you and your staff for transforming our property into a beautiful picnic and recreation area. The overwhelming support of your organization was felt throughout the day and we cannot thank you enough. A special thanks to Sarah and Eric for their incredible dedication to the project. Thanks for showing what a supportive community for our veterans looks AND feels like.

John Ready, The Mission Continues, Joins the ClearPath Team
Clear Path for Veterans Welcomes John Ready, our Mission Continues fellow to our Clear Path Team. He served in Iraq with the U.S. Army from 2003-2004, as the Executive Officer of the 414th Civil Affairs Battalion based in Utica. Their mission was to manage the rebuilding of key infrastructure projects outside the Baghdad International Airport perimeter. John is leaving a new "service footprint" in his community by helping us at Clear Path serve our military community. Thank you John and The Mission Continues.

Spring is Here at ClearPath
Steve Kinne has been walking the trails at ClearPath and shares some of the beautiful early wildflowers for you below. We hope to have some of our bird watching photos in the near future.

Spring Beauties

The first spring flower to appear back in the woods at Clear Path, "Spring Beauties" are just that.

Trout Lily

The second spring wildflower to make it’s appearance in the woods at Clear Path was the "Trout Lily."

White trillium

After searching the forest floor and all the Trillium beds for several days, I found the first White Trillium in bloom (Tues, 23 April 2013). There are lots more Trillium getting ready to bloom, so take a walk in the woods over the next week or two. But be prepared for finding deer ticks whenever you are waking in the leaf debris/brushy areas!

Spring beauties, violet

And if the white "Spring Beauties" seen the week before weren’t enough to satisfy your need for some color, how about these showing a blush of violet? (23 April 2013)

Red trillium

Oh, sweet! After only finding one red trillium on the property all last year, I was overjoyed to find one growing right on the newest trail on the property, built as part of Graham Ritchie’s Eagle Scout Project (the green marked trail). This was an early bloomer also, finding it on 23 April 2013.

Maddy Spicer lived to the lucky age 13. She died April 7, 2013 from an aggressive cancer in her spleen. Humans define legacy, as ". . . a gift of property by will or testament. The term is used to denote the disposition of either personal or real property in the event of death." Maddy’s legacy has a different value, beginning with her own family. Adopted during a time of personal grief, Maddy’s wonderful personality was quickly identified by a veterinarian technician as a great "teacher."

At the grand opening of our Clear Path Canteen Marines with 4th LAR 4th Marine Division, and Korean War Marine Corps veteran Joseph Owen pose for a photo. The Clear Path Canteen is modeled after the famous "North Platte, Nebraska Canteen" that was formed during WWII for service members passing through on trains. The Canteen takes place every Wednesday from 10-2.
